חמשה חומשי תורה – לפי פרשיות

This study covers Bamidbar Chapter 26, the second census of the Israelites taken in preparation for entering and dividing the Land of Israel. The census represents a transition to a new generation after the death of those who left Egypt, includes detailed tribal and family counts for land allocation, and marks the shift in leadership from Moshe and Aharon to Elazar and the next generation. The chapter provides the most complete genealogical accounting in the Torah, organizing the people by tribes and families, with the tribe of Levi counted separately since they would not receive a territorial inheritance.

This lecture covers Bamidbar Chapter 25, the story of Baal Peor and Pinchas's zealous response. The chapter addresses the spiritual threat of Israel's neighbors through intermarriage and idolatry, showing how Israelite men strayed with Moabite and Midianite women and began worshiping Baal Peor. When a plague broke out and an Israelite prince publicly defied Moses by bringing a Midianite woman into the camp, Pinchas took decisive action by killing them both, stopping the plague and earning the eternal covenant of priesthood for his family.
This study covers Bamidbar Chapter 24, focusing on Bilam's final prophecies to Balak. The third prophecy describes Israel's beautiful encampment and military strength, culminating in the blessing "those who bless you are blessed, those who curse you are cursed." The fourth prophecy looks to the future, predicting Israel's conquest of Moab, Edom, and Amalek, and includes the famous "star from Jacob" vision, while also foretelling the rise and fall of various empires including Ashur and the nations from Kittim.
