Neoplatonic Virtue: Daimon, Narrative and Astrology
In this session of the Neoplatonic Virtue course, we begin with Plato’s Myth of Er, exploring the soul’s choice before birth and how this narrative structure resonates with Alasdair MacIntyre’s account of the narrative form of human life.
We then link this mythic framework to the astrological technique of Zodiacal Releasing, interpreting planetary periods as chapters and subchapters in the soul’s chosen life.
Finally, we turn to Iamblichus’ On the Mysteries Book IX to examine how the personal daimon — the spiritual guide assigned at birth — is known through theurgic technique and astrology.
