Neoplatonic Virtue: The Self in Alcibiades I and in Plotinus' Life

Yitzchok Lowy and I recap Plotinus' thought on contemplation, turning towards nous and identifying with your higher self by looking at the argument in the Alicibiades I on how the soul is the true self and the soul knows itself by knowing itself being known in the wisdom of another soul.

After that we turn to Porphyry's the Life of Plotinus and consider how it is a mere image of an image of his true self. We then start to see what picture of the sage the Life of Plotinus gives us, taking a look at his political and social virtues.
